Sprang a nice leak of coolant today :(
Luckily we didn’t overheat. Appears to be coming from that lower hose and not anywhere else. I think I’ll just replace the whole thing and cinch it up tight... I could just try to tighten it up now as is, but maybe this is a sign to just replace.
On that note, wow, 2020 is my year for vehicular inconveniences.

I recommend you also inspect the radiator closely. particularly the seams top and bottom where the tanks attach to the fins. And look for discoloration in between the fins. You could have a worn out radiator apart from whether the hose is worn out. When is the last time you replace the water pump on that beast? Couple of years ago, I went through my safari and replaced every piece of rubber hose as well as the radiator and the water pump basically 200,000 mi cooling system refurbishment.

Couldn’t be easier to fix, so good?
Got the fintail back after its yearly service and a few issues to be sorted out, bill was as much as I paid for the car (but the car has been well behaved for some time, so I am not upset) . One of the issues (turn signals kaput, not a big issue in Bellevue) returned within 10 minutes of driving the car this morning. However, they told me what was wrong, and I was able to repair it myself. That’s a victory even if at a price.

I'd probably just throw radiator, water pump, upper hose, and thermostat at it all at once if it were mine. While you're in there, right? Thing isn't exactly new anymore and those parts probably aren't terribly expensive. Just hate doing stuff more than once.

Not sure if you meant this reply for Dr. Z., but I doubt he’d embrace that scale of a project. But I’d do exactly the same. And it would be pretty easy on that truck, I expect.

Not exactly, because I have a feeling you're right about that
